BOTOX

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription drug that, when injected, temporarily paralyzes muscles. It contains a purified and safe form of botulinum toxin A, which is produced by the microbe that causes botulism. Manufactured by Allergan, Inc., it is used to treat permanent furrows and deep wrinkles in the skin that are formed by the continual contraction of facial muscles. In addition to its cosmetic applications, it is used to treat a number of medical problems, including excessive sweating, overactive bladder, neck spasms, crossed eyes, chronic back and jaw pain, and migraines.

Applications for BOTOX Cosmetic

Although originally approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of eye and muscle spasms, BOTOX Cosmetic was quickly recognized for its cosmetic value. Properly placed injections of BOTOX Cosmetic block nerve impulses sent to muscles, weakening them to the point where they cannot contract, and temporarily eliminating moderately severe furrows and lines. BOTOX Cosmetic is used to treat the following:

  • Forehead furrows
  • Frown lines
  • Crow‘s feet
  • Skin bands on the neck

According to Allergan, BOTOX Cosmetic has been “extensively researched, with approximately 2500 studies.”

Using a very fine needle, BOTOX Cosmetic is injected directly into facial muscles that are causing furrows and lines. Receiving the injections requires no anesthetic, but if desired, we can to numb the area to be injected with ice packs or a topical anesthetic cream. Results can usually be seen within a few days of treatment, and typically last up to four months, although areas that are treated on a regular basis may retain results longer. Injections should be given only by qualified medical professionals.

DYSPORT

Dysport®, developed by Galderma, is a form of botulinum toxin type A that involves the temporary interruption of nerve signals to the muscles, effectively inhibiting facial muscle contractions responsible for the formation of wrinkles. The product has obtained FDA approval for addressing moderate to severe frown lines, commonly referred to as glabellar lines or “11s” located between the eyebrows.

Like Botox, Dysport works by reducing muscle activity, resulting in the smoothing of wrinkles on both the upper and lower regions of the face. It can also be used off-label to target lines around the lips, nose, and mouth, as well as on the neck and jaw. Furthermore, Dysport can also be used for excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis). At Auri, our objective is to minimize lines while maintaining your natural facial expressions.

What distinguishes Dysport from Botox?

Both Dysport and Botox are injectable treatments that contain Botulinum Toxin type A, intended for the prevention and treatment of wrinkles. Nevertheless, there are variances in their manufacturing processes and the potency of minor proteins present.

What is the typical duration of Dysport injections?

Typically, the effects of Dysport injections are anticipated to last approximately 3 to 4 months.

What are the potential side effects of Dysport?

Typical side effects associated with the treatment encompass discomfort at the injection site, the potential for infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, bleeding, bruising, and similar reactions.

What is the recommended frequency for Dysport treatments?

It is generally advised to wait a minimum of 90 days before considering another Dysport treatment.

How much does a Dysport treatment cost?

The pricing of a Dysport treatment depends on the number of units required to achieve the desired outcome.

Jeuveau

We’ve expanded our offerings to include Jeuveau® by Evolus®, in addition to BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®. This ensures our patients have access to a comprehensive array of choices for diminishing facial wrinkles and achieving a rejuvenated appearance.
Introduced to the market in February 2019, Jeuveau ® stands as the latest addition to the botulinum toxin family. Administered through injections, Jeuveau enhances the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines, including those between the eyebrows (glabellar lines), forehead creases, and crow’s feet lines.

What is the duration of Jeuveau's effects?

The effects of Jeuveau typically endure for around 3-4 months, and in some cases, they may even last longer, contingent upon an individual’s response.

Is Jeuveau considered safe?

Absolutely! Jeuveau underwent rigorous clinical trials to secure FDA approval, demonstrating both its safety and effectiveness — achieving outstanding results. The majority of individuals, both women and men, encountered minimal side effects, primarily limited to transient redness or mild tenderness at the injection site.

How does Jeuveau® compare to Botox®?

While both Jeuveau® and Botox® are derived from botulinum toxin type A, they diverge in terms of their manufacturing and purification methods. While both are effective for addressing frown lines, Botox® boasts FDA approval for a broader range of cosmetic and medical applications.

When can one expect results after undergoing Jeuveau® treatment?

Individual outcomes can vary, but generally, patients begin noticing the effects of Jeuveau® within 2 to 10 days following their initial treatment.
